# ET-Forex > Compare today's USD, EUR, GBP and AED exchange rates across 30 Ethiopian banks. Live buy and sell rates, 90-day history and a free birr converter. ET-Forex compares official exchange rates published by Ethiopian commercial banks. Rates are read directly from each bank's own published board several times a day. Nothing here is estimated, and parallel ("black market") rates are not collected, quoted or inferred. ## Key definitions - **ETB** - the Ethiopian birr, the currency all rates are quoted against. - **Buying rate** - what a bank pays you for foreign currency. You receive this when selling. - **Selling rate** - what a bank charges you for foreign currency. You pay this when buying. It is always the higher of the two at any one bank; the gap is the bank's spread. - **Cash rate** - applies to physical banknotes over a counter. - **Transactional rate** - applies to wires, remittances credited to an account, card settlement and letters of credit. Usually slightly better than cash. - **Stale board** - a bank whose most recent published board predates the current trading day. Detail: https://et-forex.com/rates/aed - **SAR → ETB** - banks pay up to 45.38, sell from 42.00; 16 banks quoting. Detail: https://et-forex.com/rates/sar Each line gives the best offer available anywhere in the market on each side. The two figures usually come from *different* banks, so the "pay" figure can sit close to, or even above, the "sell from" figure - that is real cross-bank dispersion, not an error. Quotes more than 15% away from the market median are excluded as suspected publishing errors.
